Pantone named Marsala, an “earthy red terra cotta” inspired hue, the 2015 Color of the Year. Following up to 2014’s Radiant Orchid, a bright, almost neon purple, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015 is what might be considered its precise opposite: a dark, rusty red known as Marsala.
The color “embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” Leatrice Eiseman, director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a press release.”This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”
The selection is the company’s prediction for what will be a popular hue for designs and products in the coming year.
Pantone is a global color company known for its standardized color matching system. It uses numeric codes to help designers find the exact color they need. Marsala’s code is Pantone 18-1438. New Jersey-based Pantone, a subsidiary of X-rite, picks a new color every year based on the opinions of fashionistas as well as insiders from music, travel, movies and technology.
Now , exactly some may ask… how could you apply this muted, red terra cotta hue on your dressing ? Would it go best with summer and spring session ? My honest answer ? No.
